IN the end it was the call of nature that separated twin brothers Chris and Brad Ledger in the Wangaratta Marathon last Sunday.
The pair, both running the 42km distance for the first time, spent the majority of the race together, but Chris finished some four and a half minutes ahead of Brad, who had to stop twice in the latter stages for toilet breaks.
“That’s what I’m putting the result down to – Chris didn’t take any toilet breaks and I took two,” Brad said.
“I just had to keep going,” Chris said.
“To run that first 30km or so with Brad was great, but when he had to stop I couldn’t – I told him that if I stopped I wouldn’t be able to get going again.”
The pair both came in under four hours, with Chris stopping the clock at 3:48:22 and Brad at 3:52:58.
“I’m very happy with that result,” Brad said.
“We set a nice tempo early on, then when we hit about the three-hour mark I paced myself for those final 10km just to get in under four hours.
“That was always the goal, so achieving that was a dream result.”
